Postgraduate Diploma in Education

Introduction

MIU offers the Postgraduate Diploma in Education as a part-time program in English, Sinhala, and Tamil languages in Sri Lanka. It is a program designed for individuals who already have an undergraduate degree with experience in the education field and want to become qualified as a teacher. The PGDE program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become effective educators in their chosen field. The program involves a combination of theoretical study and practical teaching experience and covers topics such as curriculum development, assessment, classroom management, and educational psychology. Students may also choose to specialize in specific subject areas, such as science, mathematics, or English language teaching.

Upon completion of this program, graduates are qualified to teach in schools, colleges, and other educational institutions. They may also choose to pursue further studies in education or related fields, or to work in educational administration or policy.

The Postgraduate Diploma in Education aims to:

Admission Requirements

  • Educational background: Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in any subject from a recognized university.
  • Teaching experience: Applicants should have prior teaching experience (Minimum one year). This should be in the form of classroom teaching or other relevant educational experience in government or private schools.
  • Language proficiency: Non-native English speakers are required to provide evidence of their English language proficiency (for English medium programmes not for native language progrmmes.
  • References: Applicants should provide two references from previous employers or academic instructors.
  • Personal statement: Applicants should write a personal statement outlining their interest in the programme, their teaching philosophy, and their career goals.
  • Entrance exam/Interview: Applicants are required to take an entrance exam. This exam may test general knowledge, subject-specific knowledge, or teaching skills.
